Is meditation a simple form of relaxation and to take away stress? What exactly is mediation?

April 9th, 2010 -- Posted in Relaxation | 5 Comments »

I read so many things about mediation and I’m not sure what EXACTLY it consist of. I understand the stress free relaxation mediation, but not the spiritual mediation?

Meditation is the path to enlightenment.  One begins by choosing a meditation technique, which helps one to become more aware of one’s thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations.  Over time, one’s awareness grows, and one becomes conscious of deeper and deeper levels of one’s being.  Finally, the dew drop of the individual "I" drops into the ocean of cosmic consciousness, and enlightenment is attained.

PETER RAGNAR / THE RAZOR’S EDGE: “Are Humans Perfectible?”

April 7th, 2010 -- Posted in Healthy Diet | No Comments »

The Razor’s Edge Newsletter For People Who Live Life in the Pursuit of Excellence: “Are Humans Perfectible?” by Peter Ragnar

Almost everyone you ask will probably respond with a resounding, “No!” It’s easy to understand why if you look at the average person’s mental diet. The media, via news and movies, saturates our minds with corrupt images of blatant violence and fraud. Not to mention the glaring and egregious behavior of our politicians, which alone should push you over the top. “Humans perfectible? What a joke!” you say. Who in their right mind, after exchanging history, would even consider such a question – are humans perfectible?

“The reason I brought it up is not in the hope that the world will change, but that you will change the way you view the world.”

The other day, I heard a talk show host explaining that the founding fathers built into the constitution certain restraints because they knew man’s tendency for corruption. If those locks weren’t in place, then the government would run roughshod over the people. “Nice!” I thought – like posting “No Trespassing” signs on an unattended piece of property. For the people who respect property rights, no sign is needed; for those who don’t, the signs are simply ignored.

“For people who respect property rights, as an example, no law is needed.”

These are people of honesty and honor. They live by reason and principle. They, to one degree or another, seek self-perfection. Those who ignore such values lack respect, and hence, laws mean nothing except the threat of violence.

“If one fears freedom, then one must create chains.”

Prevent a baby from walking because you fear it will fall, and you will simply cripple it. Chain a dog to a doghouse because you feel it will escape, and it will the first chance it gets. Bind your lover with legal restraints to capture their love, and love will soon dissolve. Bind a people with law after law, restriction upon restriction, and as history demonstrates time and again, you get revolution.

“But what seems to be the problem?”

It’s that we don’t trust freedom. Why? Because we’ve been taught to believe we’re all sinful, corrupt beings, rotten at the core, laden with vice and criminal propensities. We’re drilled with what to think, what to believe, how to act. We’re taught obedience and subservience. Yes sir, no sir, sit, heel, down, and come – here’s your treat! But where the is my brain? Why hasn’t someone taught me how to think, to reason, to act on my own conclusions? Because you would become so dangerous that if more people began to think and reason, what would happen to religion and government?

“You wouldn’t need them, any more than I need the Ten Commandments!”

What an ugly insult to intelligence. To think I must be told not to steal from my neighbor, rape his wife, murder people – what evil mind would think that I would even entertain such horrid crimes, even in my darkest moments? But humans do such things and even worse. Of course, they’ve been conditioned and expected to be wicked from birth onward. Governments and religion do not believe, if you were left alone to your own devices, that any goodness could come from you. Both threaten you with violence. Both bind you with laws and arbitrary commands which I personally hold in contempt.
